After a request from the Honourable Mayor's office for feedback from the Downtown Core community associations about the Notice to Motion for a Feasibility and Options Report on establishing a Downtown Police Station, EVNA submitted the below letter.

We expressed cautious support for the motion as the East Village Neighbourhood Association supports the general idea of the Feasibility and Options Report, we want to ensure that the processes includes meaningful and comprehensive consultation and engagement with our community.

We also continue to advocate for long-term downtown safety and prosperity measures that include building sustainable social infrastructure. A permanent CPS District Office is a short-term deployment tool for immediate perception of safety and would not be a replacement for the required social infrastructure and supports. The East Village and our residents deserve long-term solutions with accountability from our leaders.
