East Village Neighbour Day 2026 – Tea in the Square. The focus of the event is on those things that can be done to present opportunities / conditions that will encourage people to acknowledge each other, introduce themselves, and provide an opportunity to talk to each other providing a “third thing” to talk about. Through these interactions encourage the creation of social networks in East Village and create a “Village of Neighbours”.
There will be 90 minutes of live music provided at the event - local Latin band. As well tea will be served with a selection of sweets (for example cookies, Nanaimo bars, date bars, etc.). Water will also be available.
Ongoing activities for folks to engage in :
People Bingo - folks walk around and connect with one another to find people who match the bingo squares on their card (great opportunity to connect with different people and get to know each other in different ways). Once completed they drop off the cards at the EVNA table and are entered in for a draw.
Art table : making paper fans that can be decorated
Communi-tea communal art piece : Folks are invited to colour/decorate an index card and write a word or sentence that describes what Community means to them. We will put them up on a board as a communal art piece.
2:00- Dance Bingo : Like musical chairs, you dance and when the music stops you stop on one of the numbers drawn in chalk on ground and if your number is called you win a little prize.
Our success with the event would be to see people interacting and engaging with each other and perhaps exchanging contact information.
